JMP/JEQ/JGT are the toy-ISA equivalents of x86's Jcc family or RISC-V's BEQ/BGT, and every compiled if-statement, loop, and function call in a real program ultimately compiles down to one of these conditional branches. The pipelining subtrack later in this track shows why branches like these are also the single biggest performance hazard in modern superscalar CPUs.
