Why This Matters

Cheney's copying collection powers the young generation of nearly every production GC: HotSpot's ParNew/G1 young space, V8's scavenger, and OCaml's minor heap all copy live objects to achieve allocation as a pointer bump. It is why short-lived-object allocation in Java or JavaScript is nearly free.
