Implementation

Implement my_malloc and my_free functions using a fixed-size static buffer as the heap.

Requirements:

Allocate size bytes from the heap
Return pointer to allocated memory, or NULL if out of memory
Must align allocations to 8 bytes
Use first-fit strategy
Free previously allocated memory
Coalesce adjacent free blocks
Do nothing if ptr is NULL

Why This Matters

Every serious systems project eventually meets its allocator: glibc's ptmalloc, jemalloc (powering Redis and Firefox), and tcmalloc (Google's fleet) are all elaborations of the free-list design you build here. Facebook and Redis switched allocators for measurable fleet-wide wins; heap exploitation techniques target exactly these structures.
