Stack frame layout is security-critical territory: stack canaries, ASLR, and the entire history of buffer-overflow exploitation (from the Morris worm to modern ROP chains) are about the byte-level layout you are designing. The System V ABI's alignment and offset rules exist so that any compiler's frames interoperate with any debugger's expectations.
